Nowadays it seems like every celebrity has at least one tattoo. It is not considered lowlife as it perhaps was once. They more often get their tattoos "because" - just for fun. Sometimes it can be even a mistake due to their extravagant and wasted lifestyle. Especially women get inked for or about loved ones. Another common reason is to express their beliefs and religious views. Bottom line is that tattoos mostly mark an occasion, an emotion or a period of life.
